SoftNAS™ Beta 2 Release Now Available with SnapReplicate™

The SoftNAS Beta 2 Release is now available and ready for Early Adopter Program (EAP) customers. Beta 2 is available as an automated update using the “Software Update” feature of SoftNAS. It takes about 2 minutes for the update process.Beta 2 includes the addition of SnapReplicate, which supports advanced replication between two SoftNAS systems for backup, failover and disaster recovery purposes.

Amazon EC2 users will appreciate the ability to use SnapReplicate(tm) to create fault-tolerant configurations across EC2 regions and availability zones.

VMware and Hyper-V customers can use SnapReplicate to create redundant SoftNAS nodes for off-site backup/recovery, disaster recovery and SoftNAS VM failover.

For the first time, customers may now replicate data between VMware, Hyper-V and Amazon EC2 platforms, providing cross-platform data and application portability between cloud and virtualization platforms.

This capability enables a new era of disaster recovery, development/QA/production deployment options never before available to IT, and the ability for both legacy and web-based applications to “float” between traditional premise-based data centers and public/private clouds.

SoftNAS and SnapReplicate make the “hybrid cloud” a reality with no additional development work required – just deploy applications with the data and go. With SoftNAS, you’re never locked into a computing platform again.

There is an 11-minute demo video which provides an overview of how to configure SnapReplicate.

The release also includes a built-in, full-featured trial extension for EAP users through the end of February (Beta 1 expires on Friday, 1-11-2013, so be sure to apply this latest update).

The Beta 2 code is delivered as an automatic download and update, which takes about 2 minutes to complete (no manual steps required). The update downloads and applies a 6.5 MB update package to the existing Beta 1 installation, so no download/install is required for an existing Beta 1 installation.

Please see the Release Notes for more details on Beta 2.

If you are an existing Beta 1 customer, you do not need to download and install SoftNAS – simply use the “Software Update” menu within the SoftNAS StorageCenter administrator interface to apply the update.

If you are new to SoftNAS, then you can download the original Beta 1 product and install it, then apply the Beta 2 software update.  To get the zip file password for the Beta download files, please join our Early Access Program.
